DALLAS (November 25, 2024) — AECOM (NYSE: ACM), the trusted global infrastructure leader, today announced that its joint venture with Jacobs Consultancy Canada has been selected by Metro Vancouver to provide preliminary engineering services for the Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade. The project seeks to upgrade the existing facility to meet regulatory requirements and ensure protection of public health and the environment in a growing region.

“As Metro Vancouver continues to invest in its water treatment facilities, we’re ready to support them as the industry’s top Water design firm,” said Beverley Stinson, chief executive of AECOM’s global Water business. “Aligned with global trends toward investment in sustainable and resilient infrastructure, including in solving global water supply challenges, our team is excited to apply our expertise in advanced water treatment technologies to the Iona Island Wastewater Treatment Plant, ensuring it meets the highest environmental standards and supports regional sustainability.”

Built in 1963, the plant serves approximately 750,000 residents and processes about 200 billion liters of wastewater annually. Through the plant upgrades, Metro Vancouver aims to ensure the project will improve water quality, support the region’s carbon neutrality objectives and enhance climate resilience. DALLAS (October 2, 2024) — AECOM (NYSE: ACM), the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, today announced that it will serve as the design partner subcontracted to Capital Line Design-Build Ltd., a member of the Ledcor Group, to deliver Phase 1 of the City of Edmonton’s Capital Line South Light Rail Transit Extension project. Located in Alberta, Canada, the project includes a 4.5-kilometer light rail extension from Century Park to north of Ellerslie Road, two new stations and a light rail vehicle storage and maintenance facility.

“We are excited to help realize this key infrastructure investment for the City of Edmonton, building on our multi-decade track record of delivering transformative urban light rail projects,” said Mark Southwell, chief executive of AECOM’s global Transportation business. “As the number one ranked transportation design practice by Engineering News-Record, our teams are industry leaders in tackling complex systems integration challenges for major transit expansions, and we look forward to applying learnings from our global expertise to enhance one of North America’s busiest light rail transit systems.”

As a design lead on the Capital Line Design-Build Ltd. team, AECOM will be responsible for infrastructure and systems design. The new line will be built along the west side of 111 Street with an underpass at 23 Avenue, new bridges crossing Blackmud Creek and Anthony Henday Drive and new stations at Twin Brooks and Heritage Valley North. This project will also include a new operations and maintenance facility, with a separate contractor delivering a new fleet of light rail vehicles.

“We are thrilled to continue our close partnership with the City of Edmonton, supporting its commitment to expanding sustainable transportation options that meet increasing demand for urban mobility choices for residents, employers and visitors,” said Richard Barrett, chief executive of AECOM’s Canada region. “Our extensive transportation experience in Canada — including our award-winning work on Edmonton’s recent Valley Line project — positions us uniquely to deliver high-quality infrastructure design for the Capital Line South.”

AECOM’s previous work for the City of Edmonton includes developing a policy framework to integrate light rail transit planning with land use activities, producing Low Floor LRT Design Guidelines, and updating their High Floor LRT Design Guidelines. More recently the Company has served as the Owner’s Engineer supporting the Valley Line light rail transit project. This 27-kilometer urban light rail line is being developed in two phases — Southeast and West — which run from Mill Woods in the southeast, through downtown Edmonton to Lewis Farms in the west.

TORONTO (September 25, 2024) — AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, today announced it has been selected by the Regional Municipality of Durham to provide engineering services for upgrades to the Port Darlington Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP), which services approximately 50,000 residents in the Town of Bowmanville. Once complete, the updates are planned to enhance the performance and reliability of the plant while also considering environmental sustainability and the reduction of energy waste and overall operational costs, benefitting both the region and the community.

“Having managed some of the world’s most ambitious water and wastewater infrastructure programs, we look forward to delivering unrivaled services that will support the Regional Municipality of Durham in providing local Bowmanville residents with reliable wastewater treatment,” said Beverley Stinson, chief executive of AECOM’s global Water business. “Our Sustainable Legacies strategy centers around the role of infrastructure to deliver a better world, and we’re proud that this program presents an opportunity to protect Durham’s waterbodies and greatly enhance its environmental safety and sustainability.”

The four-year contract’s scope of work is comprised of two upgrade projects. The first will focus on replacing the existing Waste Gas Burner (WGB), which is at the end of its service life, with an enclosed flame WGB. The second project will tackle upgrades to Plant 1 liquid treatment systems, the SCADA system, and other vital clean-up work around the Plant. Key project components include updating the Plant 1 primary and secondary clarifier mechanisms, upgrading the Plant 1 aeration tank aeration system, and full SCADA and PLC programming for a fully integrated Plant. All SCADA and PLC programming, along with commissioning, will be completed by the AECOM team in-house.

“The Town of Bowmanville is expected to see considerable population growth in the coming years. Bolstering resilience of the Town’s wastewater infrastructure is critical to meeting the demands growing communities place on water and wastewater systems,” said Richard Barrett, chief executive of AECOM’s Canada region. “Our unique expertise with retrofit projects bolstered by our familiarity with the Regional Municipality of Durham positions us to deliver these upgrades in a timely manner while minimizing interruption to the existing plant operation.”

AECOM’s successful track record engineering similar retrofits and upgrades of wastewater plants in North America includes delivery of the Los Angeles’ Joint Water Pollution Control Plant (JWPCP) and New York City’s Wastewater Resiliency Program with experience in optimizing oxygen utilization through better operations and controls, understanding environmental impacts to obtain required permits, and in-house SCADA programming.

DALLAS (May 22, 2024) — AECOM (NYSE: ACM), the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, today announced it has been selected by the Regional Municipality of Peel (Peel Region) to provide design and engineering services for the expansion of the Clarkson Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) in Ontario’s Peel Region. AECOM will be responsible for the design and implementation of the expansion, providing increased capacity and flexibility to accommodate the growing population within the Greater Toronto Area.

“As we extend our client relationship with Peel Region, we’re excited to leverage a continuously strengthening bench of water sector expertise,” said Beverley Stinson, chief executive of AECOM’s global Water business. “As the number one Water design practice as recently ranked by Engineering-News Record, we look forward to bringing our extensive experience borne from an unrivaled portfolio of some of the world’s most complex wastewater projects to bear on the WRRF, which is expected to provide long-lasting positive impacts on residents.”

This will be the third major expansion of the Clarkson WRRF facility and the next stage to bring its capacity to 500 MLD by 2029. AECOM also served as the original designers of the Clarkson WRRF Phase I and II expansions, where its digital capabilities were instrumental in expanding the facility’s SCADA system for automated process control, enabling the client to optimize their operations throughout the entire 20+ year lifecycle.

In addition to the expansion, Phase III will include a new standby power energy center to protect the critical infrastructure of the plant and help maintain treatment during power outages. The design will also feature innovative solutions to support state-of-the-art treatment, including enhanced biological phosphorus removal to reduce chemical use and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency. These initiatives will support Peel Region’s Energy Policy, which aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions at their WRRFs by 2050.

“We are honored to be selected to help realize this critical expansion — the latest of many transformational projects our teams are delivering across the Greater Toronto Area,” said Richard Barrett, chief executive of AECOM’s Canada region. “Having successfully designed prior expansions to this major facility, our teams possess a unique technical understanding of the project and a deep familiarity with the region’s objectives as it seeks to meet the needs of a growing population.”

Other work AECOM is currently delivering for Peel Region includes the Clarkson Cogeneration Expansion, which utilizes waste methane produced in the treatment process to create green electricity, and multiple projects supporting drinking water treatment at the Arthur P. Kennedy and Lorne Park water treatment plants.
